For completists Bare Trees … They sure don’t sound like they’re too pooped to pop here, with the trio of John McVie, Fleetwood and Kirwan in perfect sync from the get-go, allowing Christine McVie to ride the wave few bars into the mix with some tasty electric piano fills. I'm only giving it 4 stars because I want Reprise to re-release the CD clear and remastered. They’re yet to reach their creative peak but even without a huge hit, the LP features impressive arrangements and excellent musicianship. This is an excellent album showing everyone's talent vocally and musically. And I agree that she makes up for it with “Spare Me a Little” . Interesting that you described in detail the first 3 sections of “Child of Mine” and didn’t mention that there are a few more sections before returning to the first. Kirwan has written two melancholic, really elegiac songs based on the bittersweet poem of an elderly woman, “Thoughts on a Grey Day,” that closes the album. After the previous year's timid offering Fleetwood Mac suddenly springs to life. This album is worth every penny, so get to the store and buy it now. This morning in Auburn was a such a time and I did listen. Interestingly enough, some of my readers’ comments compared and contrasted that album with Bare Trees. Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2014. Bare Trees was their best album in my opinion. The other tracks make up for the poem. The notes had to be exactly right. Just received this cd. Maybe it was legal problems but it sure was a mistake to act like it never happened. I felt I had to limit my commentary on “Child of Mine” as it was getting pretty long already, just summarizing the rest as part of a brilliant composition. What the song lacks in depth is more than balanced by the delight that comes from listening to a damned good band. I don’t know if Bob Welch read Yeats, but his description echoes the famous lines in “The Second Coming” (“Things fall apart; the center cannot hold”).
