This is the third and final book in the story that follows Anna and her family. I became much more invested in this story than I'd initially thought I would. Brilliantly illustrating the psyche of a people determined to reclaim independence in the face of monumental odds, the story features Anna's sons and their fates in love and war. It reminded me of Michener's Poland, but covered a shorter time span. Extras. I was happy to read the last book in this series -- a nice way to tie up the based-on-fact historical fiction of a family who could have been like my paternal ancestors. The family is forced to leave Poland and goes to Paris. I've heard from Polish friends that Polish troops allied with the British in WWII. Unlimited reading. Poland is of interest to me personally because my ancestors were Kashubes who emigrated from the Hel Peninsula region of the country.

At first I felt some of the occurrences seemed too outlandish but the more I learned about Polish history the more convincing the book became! My father was Polish.

January 10th 2017 The ending was bittersweet, and, as I predicted after the second book, I am left feeling quite bereft and wiping tears. The Andrzej Wajda War Trilogy.
It was fascinating to be reminded of the help Tadeusz Kościuszko gave in our own Revolutionary War and then to see his impact in his own country. I admit I struggled at first but after I got into it, I really did enjoy the romance and suspense!
With that burden, he does everyt. I haven't read either the firs tor second novels in this series, but won a copy of The Warsaw Conspiracy as part of a Goodreads giveaway. This book gave me a whole new picture of Poland. Anna's family fights valiantly to hold on to a tenuous happiness, their country, and their very lives. Russia has taken over large portions of the country causing deprivation, starvation, and the ultimate sacrifice for many of its citizens as they struggle for mere survival. The Warsaw Conspiracy is an uplifting tale of a very moral and patriotic early 19th century Polish family living under the subjugation of Russian domination. Something went wrong. The latest: THE BOY WHO WANTED WINGS is a story of love and war as a young man seeks to become a hussar, one of the elite Polish lancers who rode into battle wearing wings of eagle feathers on their backs. A great story and after a third through it, I had a hard time putting it down. Refresh and try again.

The political intrigues of this country which was erased from the map of Europe for over 100 years are something to learn from. Looking forward to a fresh start in Martin's next book. Martin keeps the dramatic tension high throughout the novel with a budding love story set against the ever present fear of imprisonment or worse as an uprising against the oppressive Russian invaders threatens and then comes to fruition.
Martin did an excellent job in maintaining his characters who I fell in love with in Push Not The River. Does this book contain inappropriate content? These books remain close to my heart as an example of the human spirit. It is a good end to the trilogy, and I'm almost sad to see it finished.

The last book of the trilogy finally returns to the personal story of the Stenicki Family. With strong, well-painted characters that you care about, the author makes you turn each page with curiosity and concern. They live together in Zofia's town home as the situation in Poland becomes more tenuous.
